A recent trip to Ridgefield produced very few bird sightings. I thought early evening would be more productive. Not. We spotted a heron in the roadside field as we neared the end of the driving loop and decided to pull over to watch the hunt. These birds are amazing to watch – if you have patience that is. If you’re not willing to just sit and watch then the heron may not be the species you should concentrate on. We didn’t have long to wait until this bird spotted a gopher/mole and made it part of its dinner. We watched it grab two of these rodents and make quick work of them. It makes me wonder how many of these guys they can eat before they say “enough”.
