When I saw the skies darkening west of Canon City, Colorado I first thought about the possible relief that a good rain would make to the fires that are still burning in the Colorado heat. I also thought it might be a good chance to get some interesting cloud features and, with luck, some lightening. My sister-in-law agreed to go with me to the Skyline road above Canon City. Nothing like heading up in elevation to an exposed ridge in a lightening storm. We knew we would not be the highest objects but we both agreed if things got too wild we’d dive for the car… fast. Not to worry, while we did see lightening it was quite distant and never threatening. The bad news is that the clouds don’t appear to be willing to produce any significant rain… just high winds and dry lightening. Just what nobody needs at this point..
